Ruler
Your office is public; your allegiance is private. Keep your actual faction alive.
YOUR WIN CONDITION
Eliminate every Cult member and hostile Neutral while an Innocent survives. Executing the Martyr makes your faction lose.
If secretly Cult: Eliminate all Innocents while a Cult member survives. Executing the Martyr makes your faction lose.
If secretly Cult in Usurper Court: Eliminate all Innocents while a Cult member survives; the Usurper must also die. Executing the Martyr makes your faction lose.
If secretly Cult in Shade Court: Eliminate all Innocents while a Cult member survives; the Shade must also die. Executing the Martyr makes your faction lose.
THE ART OF PLAYING YOUR PART
How to play the Ruler
Everyone can see the crown. A separate assignment roll gives you a 30% chance of Cult allegiance; otherwise you are Innocent. Only you know the result. Use public influence to serve the objective shown on your private class card.
Check your actual faction before you lead the first discussion. Keep your single personal shield for a night when you expect attention.

A LITTLE WISDOM GOES A LONG WAY
At the table
- 01
If your account has a custom faction name, the public crown names the Innocent faction when roles are assigned, even if you secretly belong to the Cult. That public label does not prove your allegiance.
- 02
Royal Hearing is a discussion ability that adds twenty seconds to the next defence, making fifty seconds. The ten-second aftermath is unchanged.
- 03
Keep a dated record of claims and ask for evidence that the whole court can compare.
- 04
An Innocent Ruler benefits from careful trials; a Cult Ruler must work from public information.
Mind the trap.
- Public office is not proof of Innocent allegiance. The Ruler cannot be recruited or targeted by allegiance and role-category inquiries.
- A Cult Ruler has neither the Cult roster nor its private chat, and never inherits the Cult attack. Other Cult members do not know your allegiance.
- Bolt the Chamber stops one basic attack, not execution or multiple simultaneous attacks.
- Royal Hearing is spent even if no nomination reaches trial that day.
- In Shade Court you cannot be possessed, but Wither can still attack you.
